Material Processing with a Laser – the Basics

How Does Rayjet Work?
The Rayjet desktop laser is connected to your computer, much like a standard printer. Designs are created in any of several commercially available, graphics packages and then downloaded to the laser engraving. The Rayjet turns your creative ideas into reality.

What Does Laser Engraving Mean?
With the Rayjet CO2 Laser engraver, you can engrave text, logos and even photographs in a wide variety of materials. The focused lasing beam removes material from the surface of the part in a very controlled, precise manner.

What Are the Advantages of Laser Engraving?
Laser engraving is a non-contact process. The workpiece does not have to be clamped during processing only accurately located. The laser is in an electrically interlocked cabinet which provides total safety during processing. If the door is opened, the laser simply will not fire. In contrast to mechanical engraving devices there are no moving parts that can creat pinch points, thus the unit is extremely safe. Laser processing is fun and easy to master. In a short time, even an inexperienced user can become quite proficient.

What Does Laser Cutting Mean?
Laser cutting is a technology that uses a laser to cut materials. Laser cutting works by directing the output of a laser, by computer, at the material to be cut.

What Are The Advantages of Laser Cutting?
Cutting material with a laser provides several benefits. It is flexible in the material it can process, the results are very consistent and it can be done without clamping the material. Combine these advantages to quality and relative speed and no other device can match the value.

What Does Laser Marking Mean?
Engraving and marking are often used interchangeably however the difference is clear. With marking there is no actual material interaction. Rather the image is made by exposing the base material for a contrast. The most common application would be removing anodizing or paint.

What Are the Advantages of Laser Marking?
The biggest advantages are the ability to create very detailed images of extremely high quality. Again there is no clamping required and the marking process typically does not create much debris.

What Material Can I Process?
The Rayjet laser engraver can be used with many different materials for laser engraving, laser marking or laser cutting. On this website you will find an extensive list of application examples.
